Video sacking of Iraq museum
---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: RPettigrew@aol.com Date: Apr 2, 2007 9:10 PM Subject: Subject: Baghdad museum sacking remembered on TAC To: undisclosed-recipients Friends and colleagues: The sacking of the Iraq Museum in Baghdad four years ago was a wake-up call for people concerned about preserving the world's cultural heritage. In partnership with SAFE/Saving Antiquities for Everyone, we at ALI wish to remind our audience about that tragic event by showing Remember Iraq's Heritage: Our Heritage, the latest video feature on our nonprofit streaming-media Web site, The Archaeology Channel (http://www.archaeologychannel.org). In this video, Donny George Youkhanna, former Director of the Iraq Museum in Baghdad pleads for us to remember the looting of the Museum and archaeological sites of Iraq, often called the "Cradle of Civilization." During April 10-12, 2003, thousands of objects from the Museum's priceless collections were systematically looted and destroyed, causing an immeasurable loss to the people of Iraq and the world. Even more devastating is the ongoing plunder of Iraq's ancient sites, which feeds the international black market trade in antiquities. This video specifically promotes candlelight vigils organized by SAFE and its partners, including ALI, to take place in many locales during April 10-12, 2007. This and other programs are available on TAC for your use and enjoyment. We urge you to support this public service by participating in our Membership (http://www.archaeologychannel.org/member.html) and Underwriting (http://www.archaeologychannel.org/sponsor.shtml) programs. Only with your help can we continue and enhance our nonprofit public-education and visitor-supported programming. We also welcome new content partners as we reach out to the world community. Please forward this message to others who may be interested and let us know if you wish to be removed from our mailing list. Richard M. Pettigrew, Ph.D., RPA President and Executive Director Archaeological Legacy Institute http://www.archaeologychannel.org
